Tales From a Southern Mom recently had the privilege of reviewing Presto’s newest product, the MyJo Single Cup Coffee Maker. It has all the convenience of a single cup coffee maker without the high cost generally associated with them, as well as a compact and portable design which allows you to enjoy the perfect cup of coffee no matter where you are- at work, traveling, camping and of course also at home!
The MyJo is designed to work with your favorite K-Cups but also comes with a handy “MyJo Cup” which is a mesh basket that allows you to use your favorite ground coffee.
The process is similar to other personal coffee brewer systems, and basically there are 3 steps. I started with a K-Cup. I filled the water reservoir with water, and popped it in the microwave to heat. You can fill it with preheated water from a kettle, but it is also microwave safe- a handy feature for the frequent hotel traveler. There are lines on the side of the reservoir so you can measure your perfect 6, 8, 10 or 14 ounce cup.
I snapped the K-Cup in the base and gave it a good press to snap it into place and ensure that the needle punctured the cup. When the water was warm, I took it out of the microwave. The folks at Presto even thought to put a nice red silicone heat resistant grip band on the water reservoir so you don’t get burned or have it slip out of your hands while handling it! I snapped the top on, twisted the water reservoir into the base and placed it over my cup. The base is designed to fit most cups- from your pretty ceramic every day mug to tall travel mugs. The top is a pump- sort of like a cross between a French Press coffee pot and a bellows. You slowly press down and the air pressure forces the water out of the reservoir, through the K-Cup and into your cup. I pressed until the reservoir was empty- which took just a couple of presses. And Presto! Ready to enjoy!
The “MyJo Cup” is a small, lidded mesh basket designed to hold ground coffee for brewing purposes. It has a convenient flip top design which allows the user to operate it one handed. You simply put your desired amount of ground coffee in the cup, snap the top closed, pop it in and brew like you would if you were using a K-Cup.
Clean up couldn’t be easier. Once I finished expressing the water into my cup, I just gave the base and chamber a quick rinse and set them in my dish drainer to dry. The MyJo comes with all of the parts named above, and a 1 year warranty.
I think this is a fantastic product for anyone who has limited counter space or who travels. I would definitely recommend it, and will likely give it for gifts to everyone I know who is preparing for college. As an avid outdoorsy person, I enjoy travelling and camping very much, and frequently am on the go traveling and visiting friends and relatives.
As a coffee addict, I can tell you that it’s not always easy to find a good coffee shop in a small town, and days with young children go much smoother when momma has her coffee. The MyJo will absolutely go in my overnight bag for any trip! I’m especially excited that my camping excursions this year won’t involve instant coffee. Mentally, I’ve already got my feet up next to a camp fire savoring my java in the early morning mist.
MyJo is also generously giving away one complete MyJo (retail value $24.99) unit to one lucky winner! Please see below for entry form.
