Tales From a Southern Mom was recently given the opportunity to work with Buncha Farmers, a company which, while widely known for it’s “famous” stain sticks, also makes a variety of laundry detergents, additives, soaps, creams and other products. I was delighted to receive not only their famous stain stick, but their laundry detergent, laundry booster, Lemongrass Manuka Honey Soap, Lavender Manuka Honey Soap, and Manuka Honey Cream as well.
Let me just tell you that this is one of the best smelling packages I have EVER received. Buncha Farmer’s signature Lemongrass blend scent is intoxicating, and to be perfectly honest, if they sold it as a perfume, I’d buy it and wear it every day.
First things first. The stain stick lives up to every bit of hype that you may have heard. It’s all natural, which is nice. I used it two ways. I cut the stick in half and one half I left whole and used as a solid stain stick- Just wet the stained area, scrub with the stick until a thick lather forms. Wet the stick, and scrub a little more until it gets too thick to work again, and then you can throw it in your hamper, or directly into the wash. Easy Peasy. The other half I carved up, and put in a spray bottle of warm water and dissolved to make a stain spray. I have an 8 month old baby who is doing Baby Led Weaning and let me tell you that baby can make a MESS. Her big sister, aged 2 years, only makes slightly less of a mess. The stain stick got out set in, washed and dried in chocolate milk stains, it got out red candy stains that my eldest was kind enough to get all over her daddy’s cream colored work shirt. It also has gotten out mud, straight up chocolate, paint, and a variety of other toddler stains. The baby gets something on just about every outfit she wears, so I tend to just hose down her clothes with the spray and toss them in the laundry pile. The spray has quite effectively removed the stains from oranges, avocados and strawberries, just to name a few. This is an item I will buy to keep on hand at all times.
Next the Country Fresh laundry detergent. It has the same lovely lemongrass scent as the stain stick. The instructions say to use two teaspoons for a load of laundry, but I will admit i used two Tablespoons instead. I assumed teaspoon was a typo. I used it with the laundry booster, which again shares the lovely scent of lemongrass. The laundry booster comes in chunks and you just fill one of the little muslin bags provided and it’s supposed to last for several washes. I did use the booster with the little muslin bags provided, but since my kids and spouse are heavy soilers of clothes, I do much of my wash in warm or hot water and i found that rather than hunt for the little muslin bag after washing, it was easier to just throw in a chunk, as no matter how much or how little i used it was all used up in one wash.
I was quite pleased with the results. My laundry came out clean, stain free and fresh smelling, but not so much so that I’d call it “scented”. it just smelled clean. I hung what i could on the clothesline outside, dried the rest in the dryer and found that both groups of clothes smelled clothesline fresh when it came time to fold them. And, as an added bonus, I did not see any need for any fabric softener. The only problem I had regarding laundry is that we have an old washer/dryer and sometimes it likes to leave rust spots on my clothes. Unfortunately, none of the Buncha Farmers products removed those, but I’m not sure that there is any product on the market that will remove set in rust stains.
Next, the Manuka Honey soaps. The lemongrass, you guessed it, was my favorite. I found the scent invigorating, and while it is a gentle soap, it is embedded with coffee grounds for light exfoliation. I was able to use it to wash my entire body, including my face, AND i was able to use it to shave with. I LOVE this soap.
My 8 month old has incredibly sensitive skin. I have to be very careful about how often I bathe her, what I use to wash her and what I use on her skin. I used the oatmeal soap on her and found that it was soothing to her skin, got her nice and clean, without a bunch of added perfumes or irritants. And it wasn’t drying or irritating. Again, a win in my book.
In addition to generally sensitive skin (she’s a pale redhead), she also has had a nasty patch of eczema on her cheek for MONTHS. Since she was about 3-4 months old. I can’t stand it, after the initial severe onset wherein it got infected, and was obviously ferociously itchy, I’ve been able to keep it from getting infected, and more or less keep it from bothering her, but it’s never gone away. Until <que choir of angles> I discovered the Manuka Honey Cream. This cream is hand crafted from a blend of oils and just a hint of lavender water and it smells incredible. I use it several times a day on my daughter’s eczema and it’s now mostly cleared up. It went from angry red, scaling, peeling, itching and bleeding when she scratched at it, to a pale, smooth pink- all in just a matter of about a week. I also use it as a face cream and it’s delightfully light yet hydrating. This cream hits it out of the park. Another product I will keep ordering and ensure I never run out of. I recommend it to anyone who has sensitive skin, who wants a light moisturizer or who has skin issues. Its a dream come true. This is my favorite of the products I reviewed.
So, in review, I’m quite satisfied with every product that I tried from Buncha Farmers. And I will be keeping our home continuously stocked with the Manuka Honey Cream and the famed Stain Stick. These are truly products I feel everyone could benefit from.
