I was a dental assistant when I got out of high school, and I knew from doing this work that oral hygiene was very important and it is even more important for kids. So many people think that when it is just baby teeth that it does not matter, but I am telling you that you are incorrect. When baby teeth go bad, it sets up a lifetime of problems with permanent teeth.
Half a billion kids around the world have benefitted from the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures® oral health education program. Now, it’s offering a free, educational app: “My Bright Smile.” Included are five games, including “Visit the Dentist,” “Swipe the Sweets” and “Brush the Teeth.” There’s even a two-minute song that will help keep your kids brushing until every tooth is clean.
My granddaughter loved this app, she was brushing every characters teeth in the game portion and was asking questions about why she has to brush her tongue. I think that is pretty good! You want kids to ask how to do it and why to do it, that is a key element.
The app allows kids to see the inside of a dentist office, which may help alleviate some fears and anxieties about going to the dentist and it also gives the parents a talking point to show them what to expect there.
You can download the app at the Google Play store or at the Apple iTunes store and its free, what could be better? Well, I will tell you I think that the timer they include for kids is pretty cool, it shows them just how long they have to actually brush their teeth. The reality is kids love apps, they love to play with phones and tablets of all kinds, what a perfect meld for them to learn something very important from one!
Kids deserve Bright Smiles for life, learning about going to the dentist regularly, flossing daily, brushing twice a day and eating less sugary snacks help, and this app is a great tool in my opinion to help them achieve that goal!
