When the Duck Dynasty show first came out I have to say, I was not too sure about this family and the empire that had built while hunting ducks. However, after watching a few times it was apparent to me that they were just a family doing what family does. They show love for each other even while pointing out others short comings, and they pray together, which is always something I think is important for a family.
When Korie Robertson decided to write a book on parenting I was just as skeptical about what it would be about, but she has proven herself to be a fabulous down to earth author who just gives straight parenting advise.
Korie Robertson does not come off as an expert, or someone who is talking down to you, it is almost like reading a book your neighbor or your aunt would write something that is just good advice and very sensible advice on instilling characteristics that we want in our children. Strong and Kind is just that, both strong and kind.
There are so many books about how to get kids to sleep, how to deal with tantrums and frankly everything else under the sun. This book really concentrates on what it is that you want your child to be on the inside, what things are important to you that they can emulate. Children learn what they watch much more than what they are told, and with the help of her husband and mother Korie Robertson get this point across to parents in no uncertain terms.
Showing children what Jesus would want you to do and practicing that in your daily lives will lead them to walk on the path that is desirable for their lives. Strong and Kind is a very straight forward, no bull kind of book and I think some readers may be put off by that, but for me personally I enjoy that approach. She knows its important and she has her definitive opinions on how to get there.
I think that Strong and Kind is a great book for all parents and especially parents that are trying to move their children to put family and God first. You can follow the social media accounts for this book and follow more parents that are implementing these ideas.
