So, it’s January. I hate this month as it seems as though it is always a little bit of a downer, with Christmas done, the New Years Eve stuff is over, and it’s time to get back to the business of life. No parties to plan, no gifts to buy, nothing to really “get ready” for.
Blah.
Why does that happen? I don’t think I am alone in feeling this way as I have noticed a lot of my friends are going through the same thing. It’s rather like after your wedding; you have been so consumed by the fact that you are planning a wedding and all of the details that go into it that somehow you forget about the normalcy of regular life. After the wedding is when the good part is supposed to happen but, I am sure that many a bride and groom feel that let down after the “big day”.
For me that is what January is like. Ho hums. Maybe we should invent a holiday for afterwards, or perhaps all take vacation now instead of in the middle of summer, but then again maybe those summer vacations are what get us through the fall and winter.
It feels like there should be so many things to do. It’s a new year, a new month, a new beginning and yet the thought of doing any of it is exhausting. Then again there are so many reasons to be happy about the month of January. No gift buying, no party planning, no party’s to get ready for, its relaxation time to gear up for spring!
Now that is something to be excited about. Spring. It’s time to plan gardens and figure out what we liked and didn’t like that we grew last year. It’s time to figure out how we are going to do things differently and of course it’s time to do spring cleaning. Even if you don’t enjoy cleaning, which by the way I despise, something about the phrase spring cleaning feels almost refreshing. Purging the old junk, making things look new and happy, and getting all the doldrums out of the house and our lives, maybe even trying something new. Spring is hope for me; it makes me think about new babies, and weddings, and the sun shining down on our house, drying the entire wet and cold of winter away.
I may hate to clean but, I love a clean house, I love the feeling of freshly laundered sheets on my bed, the way my towels smell after they come off the line or out of my warm dryer. Fresh. Seasons are like that, they are very much like our lives and our relationships, they go through good times, like partying through December to a break from it all even when it feels blah like January, and then they also feel so refreshed and new like the spring. Nature gives us the map for our lives, do we take the cues well or do we fight them? I find myself fighting them often and not going with the flow of things, maybe that is why we refer to autumn as fall, we need to fall back into doing what we love to do, celebrate, love, have good will and spread love and cheer. Maybe I will begin to love January this year and enjoy the little time of hibernation that this season allows us all.

January 18, 2014 at 9:29 pmI love the new feeling that January brings. It seems so full of potential. If only it didn’t require so much work to get it all done. 😉 But the end result is definitely worth it.

January 12, 2014 at 3:36 amIt can be a bit of a downer now that all of the holidays are past. My birthday is the last day of the month, so Feb, is when the Winter blues usually hit me! Spring is my favorite season, and the one I get most excited about, too! Not much longer!
