Being ‘Dad’

It feels really good when your child calls your dad or daddy. The first time he or she says it, it feels

awesome, and one wants to keep hearing the same again and again.

However, being a dad is a responsibility, and it is important to know what a dad should do and what he should not do.

What should one do?

1. Spend time with your kids

Your kids are dependent on you and they want you to spend quality time with them. With kids, time

flies. So, it is important to spend time with them. It is possible that you might have meetings and

presentations throughout the day, but you should not ignore your kids. Also, it is important to know

their schedule so that you do not get back to them when they are at school, or they are sleeping.

2. Take is up as a responsibility

Most of the parents make this mistake. They term every duty as a mom’s ‘responsibility’ and either

ignore it or call someone for help. Don’t do that. Your child is your responsibility too. So, it is important

to take responsibility and go it with a smile on your face. It shouldn’t matter whether it is potty training

or helping your child with studies.

3. Love them

Don’t keep saying it to them. Show your love. Maybe an occasional hug or a kiss on the forehead will

help. In some cases, talking to them on a one-on-one level and knowing them better will help you show

them that you love them and you care for them.

4. Be patient

As a father, you might come across a number of situations that can test your patience. However, it is

important to be patient and talk to them about it. If you lose your patience and start shouting on them,

you might create a negative impact on them. You are creating fear in their mind. Don’t do that! Your

child wants you to love them and teach them when they are wrong.

5. Sense of humor

Your sense of humor will help you get friendly with your kids. Let them know that you are not just a

father, but even a friend to them. It will even help you cheer up your child when he or she is sad and

does not want to talk to anyone.

6. Family time

As a great father, it is important to take care of your family, and that includes your wife. So, the best

option available here is to play games, go on a trip, family vacations, and so on.

7. Gift

An occasional gift when nothing is special can lighten up your kids’ mood. Here, we are not asking you to

pull out an expensive gift, but a little gift that is on your child’s wishlist.

For example, if they want an amazing dress, look up for it on popular online stores like Anthropologie

and buy it. Along with it, using promo codes for Anthropologie will make your purchase economical. So,

use it!

Good read!! Wish more dads could be like this guy!! Being there for your kids is what it’s all about!! I know my dad is my hero and even though I am older, I still enjoy spending time with my dad even now!! We have a special bond!!

Great points! It’s too bad other fathers aren’t like him!! Loving them is spending time with them! There are too many absentee fathers! They should be role models – after all, they hold their child’s future in their hands!!
