One of my favorite memories as a child is playing board games after Christmas dinner with my whole family. My cousins would play Connect Four and Life and my aunts and uncles would play trivia games. We all had so much fun.
My grandma would buy us games and even put cards and things in our stockings, it was important to her that we all spent time playing together and she knew that board games were one of those things that brought us all together.
I am going to try to continue her tradition and start buying games for my grand kids and my kids to play together now.
Connect Four, Twister, Sorry, and The Game of Life are on the list this year and I can hardly wait until we open all of our presents and have finished Christmas dinner so that we can play and laugh and just make memories together. I am going to try to always take the time when we all get together throughout the year and play these games and next year I am going to buy more to keep the fun going.
I think I am most looking forward to playing Twister with the kids, it always seems to lead to lots of giggles and wiggles. It is also a great way to teach kids their colors and get some physical movement in there as well.
Sorry was my favorite game when I was a little girl and even though I know teaching the kids how to play is going to be a little difficult it is such a great game to play as it is simple, but employs all of the skills and strategy that they need for more difficult games and it teaches them to count and recognize numbers.
The Game of Life, is one of the classic games from Hasbro that I think everyone remembers playing. It can take you through all kinds of fun “life” events without ever having to leave your house. Always a favorite.
Connect Four is a great game to play with little kids as they learn small motor skills while feeding the checkers in the frame, and they all love to watch them crash down.
What are your favorite games? Do you buy them for gifts and then play all together? It’s not too late to buy some great games this year and bring them to your family parties and make some great memories!
