There are many misleading myths about English bulldogs that are spread by people who think that all dogs are same. These myths are far from true because they are not backed by any facts. As a matter of fact, most of them are based on assumptions. Many people are afraid of buying bulldogs because of the weird stories that they have heard from the grapevine.

Unless you have consulted a vet or any other dog expert, you should not believe such myths blindly because they can make you put the life of your canine at risk. You should do your own research on such myths to find out whether they are true or false. The problem with rumor mongers who spread these myths is that they are not even knowledgeable about this breed of dogs. You can learn a lot about English bulldogs by visiting thebulldogbreeder.com. Below are some common myths about English bulldogs.

  1. Bulldogs are Vulnerable to Diseases

This is just a white lie and the people who spread this myth probably have never owned an English bulldog. The myth has caused many potential dog parents to avoid hesitate from buying this breed because they regard the dog as a liability. The truth is that all dogs are vulnerable to illnesses. At times puppies inherit health conditions from their mothers. This problem can be prevented by breeding dogs that are healthy and without any defects. In fact, expecting to get a healthy puppy from a sickly mother is idiotic.

  1. Bulldogs Will Tear Your Stuff

When a bulldog is growing up, it likes biting into everything that it comes across including shoes, clothes, furniture cushions and throw pillows among many other things that are in your home. They actually bite when their teeth are growing due to the itchiness in their gums. This habit is common in most dog breeds and the good thing is that it dies as soon as the teeth grow out of the gums. However, there are dogs that don’t drop this habit even when they are mature.

You can prevent your dog from gnawing into your stuff by keeping it busy with toys, bones and treats. If you have to give your puppy an animal hide, make sure it’s not raw because it can kill the dog through choking. Puppies are just like little kids. You must keep an eye on your canine so you can give him something to bite when he starts gnawing. This will help a lot in keeping your stuff safe.

  1. Bulldogs Smell Awful

Any dog will smell bad if it has not been washed for several days or weeks. Due to their orientation bulldogs can emit a strong stench when they have not been bathed. This is because the folds in their face and other parts of the body trap dust. When the dust is allowed to accumulate by skipping baths, they give a favorable environment for bacteria to develop, resulting into yeast infections. This problem can be remedied by bathing your dog at least three times per week and giving it medicine to cure the infections.

  1. Bulldogs are Good Swimmers

Only a fool would try making a bulldog swim. Other dogs can swim perfectly in water regardless of whether the pond is deep or shallow. But bulldogs were not created to swim due to their tiny legs and big heads that makes it difficult for them to paddle in water. In fact, if you put your bulldog in a swimming pool, he will sink right away like a stone. If you really want your bulldog to swim, make sure he wears a lifeguard jacket to keep him afloat.
