You know that your bathroom isn’t the cleanest room in the house. You know that it’s important to wash your hands and to kill bacteria on bathroom surfaces.
But according to studies, your bathroom isn’t just home to bacteria. It’s also a haven for harmful viruses such as staphylococcus, herpesvirus, HPV, and more. And now, with COVID-19 and the flu joining the mix, you just can’t take your chances anymore.
It’s time to rid your bathroom of harmful viruses once and for all.
But how can you get rid of viruses in a bathroom that’s always in use?
Viruses are tricky, and they’re not hiding where you think. You can scrub your surfaces and clean your shower and toilet all day, but the viruses will continue to linger where you least expect.
Luckily, there are some easy changes you can make to your bathroom that make it much harder for viruses to hide, survive, and replicate.
Make the following changes to your bathroom and enjoy a safer, cleaner home.
Get antimicrobial towels
Your hand towels and bath towels are the most popular spot for bacteria and viruses to linger in your bathroom—scratch that—your entire home. And to make it worse, every time you use your towel, you’re spreading germs all over your freshly-cleaned face, body, and hands.
Why do germs love towels?
Towels are damp and have lots of dark crevices, so they make ideal places for germs to thrive and replicate. And they replicate FAST.
Your towel contains nearly 450x more germs than a toilet seat just 3 days after a wash! Those germs can easily end up on your hands and in your mouth, eyes, and nose, causing sickness and allergies to spread. They can also cause acne breakouts and skin inflammation.
Your current towels are like Petri dishes gathering germs. To keep your family safe, switch to antimicrobial towels. These towels are made with antimicrobial materials that don’t allow germs to grow. Basically, they clean themselves!
Our favorite antimicrobial towels are called Soji. We love them because they’re woven with real anti-microbial silver, which keeps germs away in a 100% natural way.
They’re also incredibly soft and plush, so it feels like you’re wrapping up in a giant teddy bear. This is really important because some antimicrobial towels can be rough and scratchy.
Soji towels take all the stress out of keeping clean after a shower or washing your hands. They stay 99.9% sterile indefinitely, and their antimicrobial power will never fade away—it’s woven right into the fabric.
Soji are oversized, which makes them great for snuggling too. We take them to the park, the beach, the pool—wherever. They can go anywhere without picking up germs.
If you’re interested in antimicrobial towels for your home, you can get a set of Soji towels now for up to 50% off. That’s a steal, considering antimicrobial towels don’t come cheap!
Toss the toothbrush holder
Your toothbrush holder is a dark and dangerous place. All of those germs from your mouth and hands run down the length of your toothbrush and end up in their dream environment—a dark and damp place.
It is the perfect spot for germs to grow, and they have a super-easy way to get into your body and to infect you once they’re ready.
The answer? Just get rid of the thing!
Why do you need a toothbrush holder anyway? You can find better spots to keep your toothbrush. Hang them on the wall, for example, or put them in a drawer.
The best way to store a toothbrush is in a place where the head is not exposed and where it can dry out easily. Damp toothbrushes can develop germs, and exposed toothbrushes can capture viruses from the dreaded toilet plume (more on that next).
You might want to consider getting a cover for the head of your toothbrush, which can be a good shield against germs.
Whatever you decide, just get rid of that toothbrush holder now!
Put down the lid when you flush
Many of the germs in your bathroom come from your toilet. But how do they get all over the place?
That’s the result of the toilet plume. This is probably the grossest virus-spreader of them all, so prepare yourself.
When you flush your toilet, everything spirals down and into the pipes. But as the whirlpool of the flush finishes, it shoots a plume of particles into the air that coats every exposed surface of your bathroom in whatever business you just took care of.
That includes your towels, your toothbrush, your doorknob, your makeup,… and YOU.
This plume contains high amounts of dangerous viruses, and it’s one of the ways that COVID-19 is transmitted.
Luckily, the plume can be greatly reduced by simply CLOSING THE LID when you flush. This blocks the plume almost entirely and prevents most of the particles from escaping.
It can be hard to remember to close the lid every time, so we recommend putting a sign on the toilet to remind users to shut it.
This is especially important if you have guests over. Even if you stay six feet apart and wear masks, they can still spread COVID-19 to your entire family just by using the bathroom!
Throw away the toilet brush
Why are reusable toilet brushes still a thing? It’s time to send them to the far reaches of history. That scuzzy brush sitting in a bacteria and virus-filled pool of residue—it’s enough to make us shudder.
Toilet brushes are rarely cleaned, and they contain some of the most disgusting and harmful germs. Every time you pick it up, you’re risking spraying those germs around your bathroom and getting them on your hands.
Throw the brush away and choose a better way to clean the bowl. Gloves and a sponge are a little bit personal but very effective. You can also try a disposable brush that flushes after each use.
Kick Viruses Out of Your Bathroom
Viruses will always try to make a home in your bathroom. But you don’t have to let them. With a few easy changes, you can keep those viruses out for good, drastically reducing the chances of them infecting your family. In the age of COVID-19, which can spread via fecal matter and the horrid toilet plume, you can’t afford to take risks with your family’s health.
The most important thing you can do is replace the most germ-infected items in your home—your bath towels and hand towels. We recommend ordering Soji now so you can save 50% off your towel set while you’re at it.
The next most important thing is to close that lid when you flush! Fight the plume, and you’ll keep most of the viruses contained.
