I grew up with barbecue, my dad would grill at least half of our meals while I lived at home; we had every sauce and special sprinkle that you could think of, and it was fantastic to have this opportunity to be able to try out some new flavors.
The package they sent me included four seasonings and three different sauces and we loved every single one! The first thing we tried was burgers with the Gourmet Seasoning and it was really out of this world. The flavor did not mask the flavor of the beef, but enhanced it in all of the right ways. It was also not overly salty, which I appreciated. The flavor was unique, but not in your face bold. It really took the everyday burger up a notch. My super particular husband even commented on how great the burgers tasted.
The next night we had planned on chicken, and I was going to cook it in a casserole as usual when my son said he thought barbecue chicken sounded much better! AHA! Another great reason to try these sauces.
We took the chicken, put it in a pan, doused it with some all-purpose seasoning, and then literally drowned it in the original recipe barbecue sauce. Oh my, it was so delicious! I loved that it had just enough of a kick to it to wake up your taste buds, and that it was not overpowering with sweetness, but just enough sweetness to balance out the flavor. We had no leftovers that day; even the little kids loved it.
The other sauces in the pack we tried as dipping sauces on some rather cheap cuts of meat, we wanted to have something to try the sauce and not have the quality of the meat competing for flavor. There was the Chipotle Maple Bacon Sauce– it was fabulous. There was a little heat, a little sweet, a lot of smoke flavor, and it included that essence of the original sauce. We then tried the Sweet Chili Barbecue Sauce and this one had a bit of a kick, it was a bit spicier and had a lighter, brighter flavor to it. I want to try that one with chicken and some rice maybe even some Asian vegetables, it felt like barbecue with an Asian fusion- fantastic.
The seasonings were packed in a great shaker style bottle, which allowed them to be poured on or just shaken for a little bit of flavor, we of course are the pour it on kind of people. The sauces came in these cool bottles with a stopper and metal hinge, corker bottles, with no yucky twist cap to get gunked up and stuck.
We liked everything they sent us, we have plans of eating these flavors often this grilling season and even beyond that. These seasonings could easily be melded to compliment just about any dish.
