Did you know that “Green Eggs and Ham” was first published on August 12, 1960! 2015
marks the beloved book’s 55th book birthday, and the “Read & Learn” edition of the story will
be coming to iOS just one week after the special occasion.
This read and learn app by Oceanhouse Media, Inc and Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P. is probably one of the most incredible reading/learning apps I have seen.
I downloaded this to my phone and then asked the almost 4-year-old to check it out. The app reads the book to your child, and they get to move and play and touch things on the screen or “pages” of the book, they just tap, drag, tilt, and swipe to uncover surprises and move the story along as you read! I loved that they put different voices to different characters and it had games and spelling activities throughout the book they could do to really hold their interest. In fact there are 30+ mini games are hidden throughout the book to motivate young readers to explore the story as thoroughly as possible! She went through that whole book four times, each time she got better and better at the spelling games, and started to recite the book as it was reading. Incredible.
We have downloaded a lot of apps as you can imagine, and I have to say this is one of the best I have seen, I love this. I have always loved the book Green Eggs and Ham, but in this app its like the story just jumps out at you, it is in my opinion a must get app and this is a must get book.
The app can be downloaded here! There is a reason this book has been around for 50 years and I think that the app is going to help it see a resurgence.
Earlier this summer, “The Cat in the Hat – Read & Learn,” reached the #1 spot in the Kids category and #25 overall in the App Store within the first two weeks of its release. The next “Read & Learn” app, “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” will be available on the App Store in late fall, with more apps in the series arriving in time for the 2015 holiday season.
This app is animated incredible well, at some points you move the train and other vehicles to turn to the next page, it was really neat to see how it all came together to bring kids the classic story in a whole new way!
