I know that most of us try to recycle when we can, but I recently read an article that stated as much as half of what we put in our recycle bins, never gets recycled. That number was a little depressing to me. Then there are things that can be used again (the true meaning of recycle) that we throw away all the time. Clothing, wrappers, bags and so many other things that you can’t even imagine.
When Terracycle reached out to me about a review, I was a little skeptical, but then I saw something they made that really piqued my interest. It was a coin pouch made out of retired postal bags! I know these bags are strong and I know that sometimes the bag will get a hole in it making it unusable for the postal service. It however, has a lot of fabric left on those durable bags, this was brilliant.
My dad worked for the USPS for over 30 yrs and even though he is retired now, he is still heavily involved in the postal service as he serves on the board for the postal employees credit union. I had a direct connection to these bags and I was excited to see what they looked like.
I was not disappointed as the bag I received has a large US stamp on it and it was very resonant of a postal bag to me. I just love how sturdy and durable the coin pouch is. Sometimes I have nowhere to keep change in my purse, and end up throwing it in my car which only leads to a bunch of change in the ashtray of my car. This is a perfect solution, it is durable, has a good smooth zipper on it and closes tightly.
It is recycled, it is something that would have been thrown away without a thought, as it was no longer suitable for its original purpose, but it still has so much life left. I love the idea of Terracycle, on their website you can find all kind of things that you probably have lying around your house they you can send them, and they will use it to make a new consumer product. Take a few minutes and check out the things that they have for sale and also check out the things they are looking for.
